copyright

Copyright is a legal concept, enacted by most governments, giving the creator of an original work exclusive rights to it, usually for a limited time. Generally, it is "the right to copy", but also gives the copyright holder the right to be credited for the work, to determine who may adapt the work to other forms, which may perform the work, who may financially benefit from it, and other related rights.

In Iran The copyright law, an Act "to protect rights of authors, artists and composer" of concerns with protecting authors creating the books, thesis, pamphlets, plays, all types of scientific, technical and literary writings, art, poetry and song, music, audiovisual works (performing on stage or screen or display,  radio and television broadcasts), painting, ornamental effects, sculpture, photography and .... In addition, one more Act dealing with "translation and reproduction of books, periodicals, and audio works" was ratified in 1973 which took into account two categories of related rights’ holders: producers of audio works (phonograms) and broadcasting organization.

In 2000, a legislation "to protect the rights of computer software creators" was adopted that considered to be an important step in protecting and promoting computer software. Moreover, a new draft dealing with the copyright in Iran is likely to be passed by parliament soon.
